TOWER OF REMEMBRANCE
A MEMORIAL TO THE VICTIMS OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2001
The most meaningful projects are the ones that leave a lasting legacy.
In the aftermath of September 11, 2001, Pollock Brothers Group was honored to be invited to help build the Tower of Remembrance in Stirling, New Jersey a permanent memorial dedicated to the victims of the terrorist attacks and a place for families and visitors to remember those whose lives were lost.
The Steel & The Bells
At the heart of the memorial stands a 36-foot tower constructed with steel from the South Tower of the World Trade Center.
Suspended within the tower are four bells from the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity Seminary in Virginia. The largest bell weighs approximately 3,000 pounds and measures 54 inches in diameter.
The bells toll throughout the day, including at 8:47 a.m., the time identified as when the first hijacked plane struck the North Tower, and again at noon and 6 p.m. Their sound is a lasting call to pause, reflect, and remember.
Building a Place of Remembrance
Pollock Brothers constructed the hardscape and landscape surrounding the tower, including the walls, terraces, walkways, and plantings that form the memorial grounds. Two reflective sitting areas were incorporated into the memorial, with bronze plaques bearing the names of the victims creating quiet places where visitors can sit, read their names, and remember the lives behind them.
As construction progressed, the meaning of the project became especially personal. Families who had lost loved ones on September 11 would stop by while the memorial was being built, some returning day after day to watch it take shape.
Those visits were a powerful reminder that this was more than a construction project. Pollock Brothers was helping create a permanent place where families could feel connected to the people they had lost and where generations to come could gather in remembrance.
The World Trade Center steel, the sound of the bells, and the victims’ names preserved on the bronze plaques came together to create something intended to endure - not only as a memorial to what happened on September 11, but as a lasting tribute to the people who were lost.
NJNLA Grand Award
Pollock Brothers Group's work on the Tower of Remembrance was recognized with the New Jersey Nursery & Landscape Association (NJNLA) Grand Award.
For Pollock Brothers, the greatest significance of the Tower of Remembrance goes far beyond an award. Being entrusted to help create a place where families could remember their loved ones remains an important and meaningful part of our company’s history.
NJNLA Presents Grand Award To Pollock Brothers Group Of Branchburg
The project was selected from 19 submissions, with the NJNLA recognizing the project for its superior overall quality in workmanship and materials. The association described the Grand Award as a special achievement honor presented only when the judges believed a project warranted special recognition.
